    Joseph James Guillaume Paul Martin, PC CC QC (June 23, 1903 – September 14, 1992), often referred to as Paul Martin, Sr, was a noted Canadian politician and diplomat. He was the father of Paul Martin, who served as 21st Prime Minister of Canada from 2003 to 2006.

    Joseph Paul Vorst was born June 19, 1897 in Essen, Germany. He studied at the Folkwang Schule in Hagen before serving in World War I, from which he received a permanent limp. He studied art at the National Academy of Berlin with Max Lieberman and Max Slevogt, and was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1924. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1930, settling in Missouri near his cousins in Ste. Genevieve. He married Lina Weller on June 15, 1935 in St. Louis, MO.

    Paul Ward (born 1964) is Head of the Department of English, History and Creative Writing and Professor of Public History and Community Heritage at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, Lancashire. He was Professor of Modern British History at the University of Huddersfield until 2018. He received both his BA and PhD from Queen Mary and Westfield College. He has taught at London Guildhall University, Middlesex University, University of Westminster and Royal Holloway. In 2004, he was visiting lecturer at the University of A Coruña; in 2004–5, he was Fulbright-Robertson Professor of British History at Westminster College, Missouri. Ward is the author of four books, relating to national identities in the United Kingdom. He is best known for his work on Britishness.
